Tri-County Electric members return three to board of directors

TIOGA, PA–Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative members returned three incumbents to the co-op board of directors during the utility’s 72nd Annual Meeting Saturday, July 12, at Williamson High School.

Tri-County members elected Nicholas Reitter of Genesee, Barbara J. Seeley of Roseville, and Lowell W. Geiser of Germania to represent districts 3, 5 and 9, respectively, on the board. All ran unopposed.

Tri-County seats three of its nine board positions annually. Directors are elected to three-year terms.

About 400 members and guests attended the meeting, during which election results and business reports from the cooperative’s management team and directors were presented.

Guest speakers for the event were hillbilly humorist Gary “The Mouth of the South” Claxton and Jim Bausell, chief operating officer of Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, the national branding alliance for America’s electric cooperatives.

Bausell called on those in attendance to do their part to reduce the demand for energy through conservation and efficiency measures.

“The greenest dollar is not a dollar derived from wind energy or methane or solar energy,” Bausell said. “The greenest dollar is the dollar you don’t spend on energy.”

Craig Eccher, president and chief executive officer, spoke on the electric generation market, and legislation that has the potential to impact future generation costs.

With demand for energy growing rapidly, coupled with legislative initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, Eccher said an effort similar to the Apollo program will be needed to ensure the nation will have the electricity it needs to power the future.

He encouraged those in attendance to contact their legislators and ask them what they are doing to ensure the nation has the electricity it will need in the future at an affordable price.

During a reorganizational meeting that immediately followed the annual meeting,  James R. Davis of Elkland was re-elected board chairman. Barbara J. Seeley of Roseville was elected as board vice-chairman, and Alston A. Teeter of Milan was re-elected secretary-treasurer.

Unlike investor-owned utilities, Tri-County is a non-profit organization, owned by its consumer-members. A democratic organization by nature, the cooperative conducts an annual meeting each July to update consumer-members on the progress made during the year and to announce the results of director elections.

Annual meetings also provide consumer-members with the opportunity to offer input and voice concerns before the board of directors and management staff.

With headquarters in Mansfield, Pa., Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative has served the residents of northcentral Pennsylvania since 1937. Today the cooperative provides electricity to approximately 18,000 members in Tioga, Potter, Bradford, Lycoming, Clinton, McKean and Cameron counties.
